Summary of New, Modified and Updated Indicators included in the e-Scorecard 2007 Update

Acute Care Two new indicators: Formalized Audit of Hand Hygiene Practices, and Medication Documentation and Reconciliation. Performance classification is not assigned to the new indicators.

Three of the Women's Health indicators for Hospital Report 2006 have been incorporated**: Adverse Events - Labour and Delivery, Readmissions - Labour and Delivery, and Access to Angiography.

The Access to Angiography indicator has been modified to report on both sexes combined.

The time period for eligible readmission cases has been changed.

The acute myocardial infarction AMI patient group in the Readmissions - Specific Medical Conditions indicator has been modified to reflect the clinical definition of AMI patients and current coding practices.

Included pneumonia and postoperative infection as conditions of interest in some of the patient groups for the readmission indicators.

The Access to Angiography indicator now includes angiographies occurring in three mandated MIS Functional Centers for Cardiac Catheterizations.

New pediatric patient satisfaction indicators report results collected using the National Research Corporation (NRC)+Picker's pediatric acute care questionnaire, specifically targeted to the pediatric patient experience. As pediatric inpatients often have different needs and care than their adult counterparts, 8 new indicators of pediatric patient satisfaction are included in the 2007 report. Overall Impressions; Access to Care and Services; Consideration and Respect; Continuity and Transition; Coordination & Integration of Care; Information, Education and Communication; Partnership between Parents and Caregivers; Physical Comfort. New accounts in the 2005-2006 OHRS standards have resulted in updated indicator definitions for the following Acute indicators: % Sick Time, and % Registered Nurse Hours.
Emergency Department Care New Healthy Work Environment indicator.

Separate adult and pediatric indicators for the Return Visit Rate for Asthma, and X-ray Rate for Ankle or Foot Injury indicators.

Three new pediatric indicators: Chest X-ray Rate for Asthma, Chest X-ray Rate for Bronchiolitis, and Chest and Neck X-ray Rate for Croup.

  New accounts in the 2005-2006 OHRS standards have resulted in updated indicator definitions for the following Emergency Department indicators: % Total Worked Hours, % Management and Operational Support Staff, % Nursing Worked Hours, and % Registered Nurse Hours.
Complex Continuing Care       Names and methodologies of Total Margin and % Corporate Services indicators were updated to be consistent with similar indicators in Acute Care that were redeveloped in Hospital Report 2006.
Rehabilitation       New accounts in the 2005-2006 OHRS standards have resulted in updated indicator definitions for the following Rehabilitation indicators: % Nursing Worked Hours and % Nursing and Therapies Worked Hours.
  • * This year an electronic SIC Survey was implemented. Changes to the survey and indicators include: new indicators, deleting / adding indicator questions, and reweighing of indicators. Due to these changes caution should be taken when comparing indicator results with previous years. A new performance allocation method has also been applied. This method uses percentiles to determine performance allocation. Please see the Technical Summaries for more information.
  • ** The remaining Women's Health indicators have been discontinued this year.
