Hospital Report 2007: Rehabilitation is the fourth in a series of hospital reports that uses a balanced scorecard approach that focuses on rehabilitation services in Ontario.

A total of 23 indicators were chosen by health care providers, managers, and researchers to examine the four important areas of rehabilitation care that form a balanced scorecard - system integration and change, clinical utilization and outcomes, client perspectives, and financial performance and condition. Local Integration Network (LHIN) level analyses are included in this report.

This balanced scorecard approach describes a comprehensive performance measurement system for rehabilitation hospitals and hospital-based programs in Ontario and identifies successes within the hospital system as well as important areas for quality improvement. High performing hospitals within quadrants are identified.

Reporting Focus:

System level and hospital-specific

Three classifications are used: above average performance, average performance, and below average performance.

Results are summarized by hospital, LHIN, and province.

Coverage:

Fifty-seven (57) out of the 58 hospital corporations with designated rehabilitation beds participated in at least one quadrant and 37 hospital corporations participated in all four quadrants of the report. The 57 participating corporations represent 99% of hospitalizations in 2005/06.
